Netherlands Child benefit calculator

Estimate the Dutch child benefit (kinderbijslag) paid by the Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB) for the 2025 tax year. Kinderbijslag is a flat amount per child that depends only on the child’s age, not on household income, so anyone caring for a child under 18 and insured in the Netherlands receives the same per-child amount. Enter how many children you have in each age band to see the total per year, quarter and month. This is kinderbijslag only; the separate income-tested child budget (kindgebonden budget) is not included.

Children aged 0 to 5
Children aged 6 to 11
Children aged 12 to 17
Child benefit per year
€ 1.165,96
Per quarter (4x per year)€ 291,49
Per month (approximate)€ 97,16
Number of children€ 1,00

How it works

  1. Kinderbijslag is paid per child and the amount is set by the child’s age band on the first day of each quarter: 0 to 5, 6 to 11, and 12 to 17 years.
  2. For the fourth quarter of 2025 the rates are €291.49 per quarter for ages 0 to 5, €353.95 for ages 6 to 11, and €416.41 for ages 12 to 17.
  3. The SVB pays four times a year, in arrears the month after each quarter ends. The yearly figure here is four times the quarterly amount; the monthly figure is that yearly total divided by twelve.
  4. There is no income test. Benefit is paid until the quarter in which the child turns 18. The amount steps up when a child reaches 6 or 12.

Worked example

Two children, aged 4 and 14, for a full quarter in late 2025 The 4-year-old is in the 0 to 5 band (€291.49) and the 14-year-old is in the 12 to 17 band (€416.41), giving €707.90 per quarter, or €2,831.60 over a full year at these rates.

Frequently asked questions

Is kinderbijslag means-tested?+

No. Kinderbijslag is universal and the same per child regardless of how much you earn. The income-tested support for families is the separate kindgebonden budget (child budget) from Toeslagen, which is not calculated here.

How often is it paid?+

Quarterly, four times a year. The SVB pays in arrears in the month after each quarter (after the periods ending in March, June, September and December). The yearly amount shown here is four times the quarterly rate.

Why does the amount depend on age?+

The rate is set by three age bands: 0 to 5, 6 to 11 and 12 to 17. A child’s band is fixed on the first day of each quarter, so the payment steps up in the quarter after a child turns 6 or 12.

Until when is child benefit paid?+

Up to and including the quarter in which the child turns 18. From 18 the young person may instead qualify for student finance or other support, and kinderbijslag stops.
